John,
Last month, the Trump administration said that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) benefits would run out on November 1 [[link removed]] . Today, they announced they will partially fund SNAP [[link removed]] , but the process could take months.
While Emily and House Democrats work toward a solution in Congress, ALL of us can step up to help the 115,000 of our neighbors in Washington’s 6th District who receive SNAP benefits (also known in WA as Basic Food):
• Donate – This is the most helpful thing you can do to address immediate needs. Use this tool from 211 Washington [[link removed]] to find your nearest pantry or food bank. If you’re in the Bremerton area, you can support Bremerton Foodline. [[link removed]]
While donations of non-perishable food are always appreciated, donating money allows local food banks to purchase exactly what their community needs. Since they buy in bulk, $1 donated to a food bank can buy as much as $11 worth of groceries.
• Volunteer – If you can give your time, you can do many different things: Host a food drive, sort and pack donations, deliver meals, help people apply for benefits, and more. Northwest Harvest [[link removed]] has links to volunteer opportunities across the state, and you can always call your local food bank and ask what they need.
• Advocate – In the short term, we must end the Trump shutdown and fully fund SNAP. You can use this call script. [[link removed]] Here in Washington, the Anti-Hunger and Nutrition Coalition [[link removed]] works on these issues year-round.
But every issue, from Medicaid and insurance premiums to wages and collective bargaining, is intertwined with hunger. That’s why Team Emily is organizing to elect leaders at the state and federal levels who put people first.

Emily Randall is proud to represent Washington’s 6th District in Congress. She grew up in a working-class Union household in Port Orchard and was the first in her family to attend college. After serving in the State Senate and passing nearly 200 bills, Emily made history in 2024 as the first queer Latina elected to Congress.
Now, Emily is fighting for WA working families in D.C. and organizing to take back the House. Can you chip in $6 or any amount and join our team?
