Since the start of the second Trump administration, federal data across agencies has been removed or altered due to the president’s firing spree and his executive orders that have compromised the accuracy of this data.

After his executive orders banning diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, federal agencies scrambled to comply. In the chaos, more than 8,000 webpages and 3,000 datasets disappeared or were quietly rewritten, and it is unclear how many went back up or were changed. The scale and scope of federal data and statistics that have been lost or tampered with is truly staggering.

This loss of transparency means a less informed citizenry, which is why CREW is taking steps to restore this data, protect our democracy and advocate for a government that works for the people, not just the powerful.

We’ll break down what the Trump administration has deleted and where it distorted key federal data—and what we’re doing to expose it. But first, if you’re with us in the fight for transparency, donate today → [[link removed]]

Some of the changes to federal data and statistics under the Trump administration are likely the result of understaffing at agencies and the mass layoffs of federal workers by DOGE.

This has impacted federal and statistical research agencies such as the National Occupational Research Agenda, the United States Agency for International Development and the National Center for Education Statistics.

But some other data that has been lost or damaged by the Trump administration appears to have been politically motivated.

For example, after Trump’s executive orders in March, the National Park Service scrubbed pages about slavery and Indigenous history, the USDA stopped publishing its annual hunger report, and the EPA halted updates to its greenhouse gas calculator after suspending the researcher who criticized Trump. Data on HIV and AIDS programs abroad was also taken offline, replaced with disclaimers echoing the administration’s rhetoric on “gender ideology.”

Then, in one of the most serious blows to transparency, the administration took down the Office of Management and Budget’s apportionments database—hiding how taxpayer dollars are spent.

In response to this illegal removal of the apportionments website, CREW sued the administration—and we won!

With so many other databases and statistics being tampered with, CREW will not back down in our fight to hold the Trump administration accountable and ensure the American people have access to the critical information they need.

We’re taking action to restore trust in our government, hold Trump and his administration accountable, and fight for transparency. Our work is only possible with the support of people like you, so if you’re with us, please donate today to power CREW’s efforts → [[link removed]]
