John,
It’s a new month, and the government is still shut down.
The rent is due, but federal workers―including the ones who are still making sure Social Security payments go out―haven’t been paid since September.
Donald Trump and Republicans have refused to negotiate to fund the government―and federal workers are paying the price.
18 Senators introduced the Federal Employee Civil Relief Act to protect federal employees from eviction, foreclosure, or student loan payments. No one’s credit score should be ruined because they chose a life of public service. Can you sign the petition to pass this bill?
Donald Trump has made it clear that his administration wants to drive capable civil servants out of government. By gutting employee unions, conducting mass firings, and now making thousands work without pay, who would seek a career in public service?
But without the dedicated workers at the Social Security Administration, Social Security never could have paid benefits in full and on time for 90 years―right up until Elon Musk and Donald Trump forced 7,000 workers out, with only a vague plan to replace them with AI.
The people who make Social Security work need us to have their backs right now. Can you stand with them by demanding the Senate pass the Federal Employee Civil Relief Act to protect federal workers from losing their homes during the shutdown?
In solidarity,
Michael Phelan Social Security Works
