** Help influence Government’s review on potential alcohol licensing reforms
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]
The government has recently announced a call for evidence ([link removed]) and views on proposed reforms to alcohol licensing in England and Wales. At Alcohol Change UK, we are concerned that these reforms will increase alcohol harm and make our streets less safe. We have prepared a template response which anyone can use to help respond to the UK Government consultation, and we would encourage all members of the public to have their say before the consultation closes.
The deadline for submissions is midday on 6 November 2025.

Planned licensing reforms “a charter for chaos”
The UK government has launched a four-week fast-track review to “to tear up outdated licensing rules” that it says hinder pubs, bars and local events. It aims to make it easier to host food, live music and community gatherings, boost high streets and support hospitality businesses. They also pave the way for alcohol to be more widely and easily available in shops and supermarkets across the UK.
This has alarmed charities including Alcohol Change UK, who have highlighted that the proposals have been heavily influenced by leaders in the alcohol industry without adequate input from other key stakeholders, and risk increasing disorder and undermining efforts to reduce anti-social behaviour.

** Alcohol harm “holding back productivity”
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]
An Institute for Public Policy Research report funded by Alcohol Change UK warns that alcohol harm hinders economic growth and workplace productivity. It found high rates of sickness after work events, pressure to drink - especially among young workers - and little employer guidance. With 73% believing employers should act, the report urges national measures like reinstating the alcohol duty escalator and stronger workplace policies.

Take our half-day training course: Understanding addictive behaviours
[link removed]
Join our upcoming training course taking place 10 December at 10am. This course explores how and why addictive behaviours occur and what wellbeing tools can be used to support behaviour change – with participants learning what drives behaviour, and what the markers are to identify when behaviours become problematic.
This training course examines the relationship between behaviour and stress, and how the technological advances of the 21st century are fostering a culture where addictive behaviours can easily develop. It will examine key factors in behaviour change and practical wellbeing tools to sustain that change.

Set up an alcohol-free or sober-curious event in your community

Simon Remington is the Events Lead Community Champion for Alcohol Change UK. He had a lifesaving liver transplant after his alcohol consumption led to severe liver disease and now channels his experience into delivering a series of events across the Midlands to help people understand more about alcohol.
In addition to his day job and volunteering for Alcohol Change UK, Simon organises the 'Let's Talk Alcohol' events across the Midlands. These are an informal, welcoming space to discuss alcohol and support available - focusing on education, choice, and community. The October event, held at The Good Intent pub in Birmingham and which was opened by the Lord Mayor, included keynote talks, non-alcoholic drink tastings, as well as having a scanner on site for free liver health checks.
