Dear John,

As Mainers face another winter of high energy bills, the frustration is real — and justified. Between a federal shutdown threatening assistance programs, the growth of massive energy-hungry data centers, and ongoing rate hikes from utilities, it’s clear our current energy system isn’t working for the people it’s supposed to serve.

To move from frustration to solutions, we’ll dive into what a just and sustainable energy system could look like — and how Maine communities can start shaping it today.

Friday, November 21, 12-1 PM: Power in Crisis | Building a Fair Energy Future for Maine

We’ll be joined by Lucy Hochschartner, energy activist and former Deputy Campaign Director for Pine Tree Power and former Climate & Clean Energy Director at Maine Conservation Voters, to explore how we got here, what an ideal energy system could look like, and what Mainers can do right now to make change.

Lucy will unpack:

  • The factors driving Maine’s rising energy costs and public frustration.
  • How our current system reinforces inequity and harms consumers.
  • The policies and organizing efforts that can reduce harm now — from supporting legislation at the state legislature, calling on Governors, PUCs, and utilities to act during the crisis, and joining the fight to oppose CMP’s latest proposed rate increase.

Together, we’ll chart a path forward, highlighting how Mainers can take meaningful action to create an energy system that works for everyone.
