Dear MoveOn member,
Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane, wreaking havoc across the Caribbean. It is one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes in history.1
Tragically, the hurricane has left dozens of people dead and a trail of destruction across Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba.2 The damage is so widespread that 60% of people in Jamaica are still without electricity. 3
World Central Kitchen, founded by Chef José Andrés, prepositioned in the region ahead of the hurricane and has already served thousands of meals to impacted communities in the wake of the disaster.
But the need on the ground is immense. World Central Kitchen must expand its operations to meet the growing demand for meals in the days ahead—and they can't do it without our help.
Click here to make a $9 tax-deductible donation to World Central Kitchen now. 100% of your donation will go directly to World Central Kitchen. This couldn’t be more urgent.
When disaster strikes, World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team mobilizes to the front lines with urgency to start cooking and providing meals to people in need. By partnering with organizations on the ground and quickly activating a network of food trucks and emergency kitchens, World Central Kitchen provides freshly made, nutritious, culturally appropriate meals to communities impacted by disasters.
And this time is no different.
World Central Kitchen’s relief teams mobilized urgently this week to serve hot meals because they know that good food provides not only nourishment but also comfort and hope, especially in times of crisis around the world.
The need is immense. With your support, World Central Kitchen will scale up partnerships with local restaurants so more kitchens can cook hot meals and reach cutoff communities faster.
Will you make a $9 tax-deductible donation right now to help World Central Kitchen keep cooking for families impacted by Hurricane Melissa? Your donation will help fund the buildout of a new kitchen hub, expand warehouse capacity, build partnerships with local restaurants, and purchase generators, propane, water, refrigerators, and vehicles.
This catastrophic hurricane highlights the deadly results of the climate crisis—and comes on the heels of the federal government’s dismantling the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and slashing billions of dollars in foreign assistance.
But even then, we are not powerless. We can make a difference, if we work together.
MoveOn members like you have generously supported World Central Kitchen’s efforts to deliver critical aid to disaster zones.
After the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, MoveOn members rushed hundreds of thousands of dollars to World Central Kitchen to provide meals to impacted families. After Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine, MoveOn members came together to raise more than $1 million for World Central Kitchen to provide fresh meals to people forced to flee the invasion, inside Ukraine and in neighboring countries. And MoveOn members donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to World Central Kitchen’s life-saving emergency food response efforts to Benjamin Netanyahu’s genocide in Gaza.
Now, we must come together for the survivors of Hurricane Melissa.
Please, will you make a $9 donation right now to World Central Kitchen’s efforts to provide fresh meals to communities in need? 100% of your donation goes straight to World Central Kitchen and is tax deductible.
Thanks for all you do.
