Hi friend,

Unconstitutional. Unpopular. Un-American. That’s how I’d describe the last 10 months under President Trump. The current government shutdown is only the latest example. At every turn, Trump’s cronies get richer, and the American people pay the price.

But we’ve fought back at every turn, and now is the time for our voices to be heard. Local elections in New York and around the country are this Tuesday, as well as state elections in New Jersey and Virginia. We have a chance to make it clear that we will no longer tolerate Trump’s overreaches, cruelty, and abuses of power.

What’s going on
Hudson Valley
[link removed] [[link removed]]What I’m doing: This Tuesday will be an important day for voters across the Hudson Valley and in New York, as local elections will determine who makes on the ground decisions in our communities into the future.

My new initiative, Patriot PAC, is supporting pragmatic, positive, and patriotic leaders in the Hudson Valley who will move our community forward. I’m supporting candidates for county legislature and comptroller in Ulster, Dutchess, and Orange counties, well as local offices throughout NY-18.

You can find the full list of my supported candidates here, [[link removed]] and I’ll be working through the weekend to help them win.

What you can do: The most important thing you can do is get out and vote! Go to iwillvote.com [[link removed]] to make sure you know when and where to make your voice heard.

What I’m doing: As Trump’s government shutdown drags on, 74,000 of our Hudson Valley neighbors — kids, seniors, and veterans — are at risk of losing their SNAP benefits. I sent a letter to Trump’s Secretary of Agriculture demanding the USDA release contingency funds to keep food assistance flowing and prevent hunger across our communities. This is about right and wrong. No child, senior, or veteran should go hungry because of Trump’s cruelty.

What you can do: Continue helping your neighbors and using your platform to hold Republicans accountable. And support the Regional Food Bank [[link removed]] which has come under increased demand from those needing help.

What I’m doing: As the government shutdown drags on, Senate Republicans are finally admitting what Democrats have said from the start: their refusal to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies is about to send health care premiums through the roof for millions of Americans. Even GOP senators are warning that their own voters will be “screaming bloody murder” once the bills arrive.

Let’s be clear, this crisis is entirely of their making. Democrats in the House and Senate have been ready for weeks to extend the ACA tax credits that help 24 million Americans afford their insurance. But Trump and House Republican leadership refuse to even come to the table. They’re holding working families hostage to protect their political agenda.

I’ve been pushing every day to end this shutdown and make sure the ACA subsidies are extended. With open enrollment having begun yesterday, we’re already seeing impacts in the Hudson Valley and around the country. These tax credits are a lifeline for small business owners, families, and young people.

If Republicans keep stonewalling, premiums will nearly double next year, and millions could lose coverage. That’s unconscionable.
I came to Congress to lower costs and protect access to care, not to let extremists in Washington play politics with people’s health. I’ll keep fighting until this funding is restored and the government is reopened.

What you can do: We need to make it clear that there is a political cost for the GOP’s betrayals. Here’s how.

1. Make your voice heard. Call or email your representatives, especially if you live outside NY-18, and demand they extend ACA subsidies and end this reckless shutdown.
2. Share your story. If you or someone you know is seeing higher health care costs, tell us. [[link removed]] Real stories from real people matter — they help show how this crisis is hurting working families.
3. Spread the word. Post on social media, talk to your neighbors, and remind folks that Democrats are fighting to lower costs while Trump and House Republicans are blocking solutions.

Going on offense

Our nation needs a new generation of pugilistic, patriotic leaders. It’s not about center or left, it’s about fighting back against the status quo that’s leaving far too many people behind. Breaking up monopolies, fighting rising costs, and standing up to Trump and his friends who want to sell us out to make a quick buck.

This shutdown, the upcoming elections, and everything we do are a part of that fight. It’s one I’m confident we can win, but only if we keep it up.

Keep the faith, keep up the fight, and thank you for reading!
