John,
Donald Trump has declared war on America’s public schools. The Department of Education is being gutted from within, its mission rewritten to serve politics and profit instead of students and teachers.
He began by firing the people charged with enforcing civil rights, protecting survivors of sexual assault, and processing financial aid for millions of students. Now his administration is purging the offices that oversee Special Education and Rehabilitation Services. The people who make sure children with disabilities get the resources they need are being shown the door.
They are dismantling the very idea that every student deserves a fair education, no matter their race, zip code, or income. Trump is trying to roll back fifty years of progress and replace it with a system where privilege decides who gets to learn.
Twenty state Attorneys General and the District of Columbia have already sued to stop this assault. But Trump’s attacks have escalated, and the pressure must grow. Every Attorney General in America needs to join the fight and stand up for the students, parents, and teachers who depend on the Department of Education.
It’s time to turn up the heat. Tell Attorneys General across the country to fight back and stop the destruction of the Department of Education.
When you take apart the Department of Education, you take apart the promise of equal opportunity. You tell children in poor districts that their futures matter less. You tell students with disabilities that their rights are optional. You tell teachers that politics outweighs truth and expertise.
Trump’s attacks will deepen inequality across our entire society. Every program he’s slashed, Title I, Pell Grants, afterschool funding, mental health services, hits hardest in the communities that already struggle the most.
Trump is doing to education what he’s done to every public service he touches, turning it into a tool for the wealthy and well-connected. Their goal is to starve public institutions until they fail, then point to the failure as proof they should be privatized.
The Department of Education belongs to the people, not to Trump and his cronies. The louder we get, the harder it becomes for him to destroy it in silence.
Join us by calling on every Attorney General to fight back and protect the Department of Education now.
Let’s stand up, speak out, and protect every student’s right to learn.
