Dear Friends,
Last week, I continued working to promote accountability, protect taxpayers, and ensure our government is serving the people—not playing political games. Whether it’s holding government accountable, standing up for law enforcement, supporting those struggling with mental health challenges, or protecting the integrity of our institutions, my focus remains the same—putting people before politics and working every day to deliver results for our community. Continue reading to learn more about my efforts on your behalf last week.
Helping Our Heroes: Thank you to the nearly 300 Veterans who joined me at my 19th Annual Veterans Resource Fair. We had meaningful discussions about the ongoing improvements to outpatient clinics in Citrus and Hernando Counties, my legislative priorities to ensure Veterans receive the care and benefits they’ve earned, and the harmful impact the Democrat-led shutdown is having on so many Veteran families in our community. We were also honored to enjoy a patriotic musical performance by local music legend Bertie Higgins. Additionally, I’m deeply grateful to the more than 50 outstanding nonprofit and government organizations that partnered with us to connect Veterans in need with valuable local resources. Together, we’re making a real difference for those who have served our nation.
Calling for an End to the Government Shutdown: The Democrat-led government shutdown is hurting small businesses and stifling America’s economic growth. Washington’s dysfunction has real costs for Main Street. It is also creating major disruptions to air travel. And just yesterday, 42 million Americans lost access to SNAP benefits - sadly nearly 50,000 of those households are in Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties. These are the most vulnerable among us - low income seniors, families and disabled adults. All of this avoidable pain because Democrats continue to block the clean funding bill. It is shameful! In solidarity with my constituents who are not able to collect a paycheck or federal benefits, I've directed the House Chief Administrative Officer to withhold my pay until the government is fully re-opened.
Even the American Federation of Government Employees is urging Senate Democrats to end the Schumer Shutdown and approve a clean continuing resolution – just like the one the House passed more than 1 month ago. I completely agree. It’s time for Democrats to quit the political games, reopen the government, and put American workers and families first.
Setting the Record Straight: When someone shares information that is not true, it is important to set the record straight, which is what I did in my recent response to a letter to the Editor. Click here to read my response.
Supporting Mental Health Services and Strengthening Our Community: Last week, I had the opportunity to visit the Pasco Vincent House to talk with program participants and to see firsthand the progress of the supportive housing project made possible through federal funding I sponsored. This initiative is providing meaningful support and a path toward self-sufficiency for individuals struggling with mental illness. I’m proud to see federal resources making a real difference in our community.
I also met with New Port Richey Mayor Chopper Davis to discuss the key issues impacting the city and explore ways we can collaborate to better serve our shared constituents. When leaders at every level work together, our residents win.
Protecting the Integrity of Professional Sports: Recent allegations of illegal gambling and potential threats to the integrity of the NBA raise serious concerns. My colleagues and I have written to Commissioner Adam Silver requesting a full briefing on these allegations and the steps the league is taking to prevent such misconduct in the future. The American people deserve confidence that professional sports are fair, transparent, and free from corruption. Click here to learn more about our efforts.
Community Connection
I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who regularly attend events throughout our community, especially when I am required to be in Washington, DC. Through their collective efforts, I am better able to stay connected to the issues that matter most to my constituents. As part of my commitment to developing a better understanding of the issues facing constituents in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties, members of my team attended several events last week. Here are a few highlights.
My team was proud to attend the Steps to Recovery Annual Halloween Event to support the rehousing of homeless Veterans in our community. It was a meaningful evening filled with community, compassion, and commitment to helping those who have served our country find a safe place to call home.
My team also participated in the Good Soles Celebration initiative, where the community came together to collect new and gently used shoes for children in need. It was truly inspiring to see everyone unite for such a meaningful cause, making a tangible difference in the lives of children who need it most.

Additionally, my team had the privilege of welcoming home this month’s Honor Flight participants. The Honor Flight Program is a special way to recognize and celebrate the service and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes.
Constituent Corner
My team recently received this message from a local business who reached out to ask for help with a CMS issue.
This is just one example of the work we do each day. Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office. The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape. Also, if you are planning a trip to Washington, DC please let us know 90 days in advance so we can help make the most of your visit. We are here to serve you! |
