🔶 On Friday, Columbia University's campus newspaper, The Columbia Spectator, published this opinion by RefuseFascism leader Coco Das. Share: Fascism is not a looming threat. It's upon us now.

...Following President Trump’s inauguration, Columbia became an early target and testing ground for the regime’s war on universities. Caving to Trump's destructive demands made Columbia a symbol of capitulation and has greased the skids for further attacks on academic freedom. On campuses across the U.S., the administration is demanding that educational institutions teach a whitewashed version of U.S. history, suppress the First Amendment rights of students, and eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. Determined to crush college campuses as centers of dissent, critical thinking, science, and reason itself, the Trump regime is withholding critical funding for science and research, demanding outrageous financial settlements, dictating curriculum and admissions policies, arresting international students who dare to speak out, and denying the right to free speech constitutionally guaranteed to all students and faculty.

For these reasons, the academic community at Columbia—students, staff, and faculty—has a special role and responsibility to become a major force of nonviolent resistance to the fascist Trump regime...
