Interview with Yusef Bunchy Shakur





Yusef Bunchy Shakur--author, father, youth mentor, inspirational speaker, community organizer and bookstore owner--will be joining us for an interview at today's meeting!



Yusef has organized various community initiatives and events in and around the City of Detroit during the past 10 years. They include but are not limited to, providing backpacks and school supplies to more than 600 children over the last 3 years! He is also a member of Community Movement Builders <[link removed]>.



He has also been collaborating with theThe Black and Brown Alliance of Greater Detroit DSA <[link removed]>to put on a series of events,Liberation Mondays: Defund the Police, Rebuild Our Neighborhoods <[link removed]>, that are neighborhood-based political education events on the movement to defund the police, defend blacks lives, and rebuild our neighborhoods.

Socialist Netflix Party: LA 92

We'll be screening LA 92 via Netflix Party and we'll have a post discussion with socialists who remember the uprising. We will talk about the intersections to now, and the idea that the uprising never really ended and tie it into our continued function in the movement as socialists.

Monday 7/13 at 7PM

Liberation Mondays: Defund the Police, Rebuild Our Neighborhoods - Youth Voices

The second in the new series, Liberation Mondays, will focus on youth voices. Our speakers will be placing the present moment and its demands in the larger context of the fight to end capitalist exploitation--and the violent, racist police and military tactics used everywhere to defend it.



This will be an in-person meeting. Masks are strongly encouraged. Chairs at 6 ft. apart to comply with social distancing protocols.

Phonebanking for Rashida and Abraham

We will be calling Rashida Tlaib's constituents in the 13th District to keep our favorite Congressional Representative in office. We will also make calls for State Rep candidate Abraham Aiyash who is running to represent Hamtramck and parts of Detroit.
