Dear John,
I’ve seen a lot in my 60 years in and around politics. I know the signs. Donald Trump’s grip on power is slipping.
Two weekends ago, more than 7 million of us poured into the streets to reject Trump’s dictatorship. That’s more than 2 percent of the adult population of the United States.
Historical studies suggest that 3.5 percent of a population engaged in sustained nonviolent resistance can topple even the most brutal dictatorships — like in Chile under Pinochet and in Serbia under Milošević.
Which means we’re almost there.
Other evidence of the backlash is all around us. Major institutions like universities and the news media are starting to find a backbone, Democrats in Congress are fighting back, and Trump’s approval rating has sunk to a level not seen since Richard Nixon, according to the latest Gallup poll.
But with democracy hanging by a thread, we can’t afford to let up on our efforts to stop Trump’s authoritarian takeover, and we need your help.
We’ve spent the last several months testing out a wide range of videos to find the most persuasive messages, and some of our most recent videos are moving people in our direction by double digits in scientific A/B tests. Now we need a significant influx of resources to get our most effective videos in front of as many people as possible.
Will you make a monthly donation to help expand our efforts, educate the public, and stop Trump’s authoritarian power grab?
Every day I see new evidence that the tide is turning against Trump.
Seven of the nine universities Trump selected to join his extortion compact — offering preferential treatment for federal funds in exchange for a pledge to support his agenda — have rejected it, while the other two haven’t even responded.
Almost all of America’s news outlets have refused to sign Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s media loyalty oath.
Most major airports have refused to show Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s propaganda video attacking Democrats for the government shutdown.
Trump’s destruction of the East Wing of the White House (after promising he wouldn’t) and posting an AI video of himself defecating on America is causing even loyal Trumpers to worry that he’s losing his marbles.
Now we need to keep working to get even more people to see the light and join our movement, and Inequality Media Civic Action was made for this moment. People who see our videos are moving in our direction by double digits on key issues, and now we just need to raise enough money to get them in front of enough people to end Trump’s grip on power for good.
I truly believe that Inequality Media Civic Action organization is one of the best places to donate to help save our democracy. Will you make a monthly donation to educate the public and stop Trump’s authoritarian power grab?
Thank you,
Robert Reich
