Herbert, I know there are a lot of moving pieces right now so I wanted to make sure you knew the latest: FIRST: Republicans shut down the government because they REFUSED to negotiate with Democrats and protect our healthcare. THEN: Donald Trump’s press secretary brazenly said — in the middle of this second longest shut down in history — that Trump’s top priority is building a $300 million ballroom. NOW: Despite two federal judges ruling that the Trump Administration must ensure SNAP is funded during the shutdown, this morning 42 million Americans – including 2 million people right here in Illinois – woke up without access to these critical food benefits. Herbert, my family utilized food stamps when I was a child, so I know how important this social safety net is to the people who need it. That’s why I’m coming to you right now. This isn’t a typical fundraising ask from me. I want to make sure that we reach the folks in need so they can find the food banks closest to them to help bridge the gap the Republican SNAP freeze has caused. I also hope that if you’re able, you can rush a donation to your local food bank, drop off the food they need most, or even volunteer to help your neighbors in need. Herbert, there is a lot of uncertainty right now, but know that every day I’m fighting for you. We will get through this together. Thank you for coming together for your community, Raja
