I became a Gold Star mother because my son was sent off to a war we didn’t need to fight. And as a Gold Star mother, watching Trump and Hegseth lead our military into another needless war is difficult to see.

VoteVets

My name is Karen Meredith, I am a Gold Star mother, and my only child, 1LT Ken Ballard, is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Ken joined the Army after graduating from high school in 1995. As an Army granddaughter, Army daughter, Army sister, and Army mom, I couldn't be more proud of his decision.

My son deployed to Iraq in May of 2003, and 384 days later, he was killed while fighting an Iranian-backed militia in Najaf. He had been scheduled to return home eight days earlier, but his tour was extended.

I became a Gold Star mother because my son was sent off to a war we didn’t need to fight. And as a Gold Star mother, watching Trump and Hegseth attempt to lead our military into another needless war is painful.

How many more Gold Star families will there be if we send American troops into Venezuela? Are Trump and Hegseth even thinking about that? No. To them, soldiers like Ken are toys they play with to look tough.

It can be hard to know what to do at moments like these. For me, I have been active in the Gold Star and Veteran's communities as an advocate for Military families. And for those families, I am going to do all that I can to stop Trump’s next Forever War before it starts.

That’s why I am proud to be a part of the VoteVets community, and why I am writing to you today.

I’m asking you to sign on with nearly 10,000 other VoteVets supporters to tell Donald Trump that America doesn’t need or want another war. No more Forever Wars. No more Gold Star families.

NO MORE FOREVER WARS

I’m grateful you took the time to read this email, and I hope you’ll take the next step and sign your name.

Thank you,

Karen Meredith
