We need your help. As of today, SNAP benefits — the nation’s largest anti-hunger program — are on pause. Nearly 42 million people, including 16 million kids, are losing SNAP benefits due to the government shutdown. Without fast action by our elected officials, millions of families won’t have the grocery benefits they rely on to feed their kids.
To help at this critical time, we’re launching a SNAP Emergency Relief Fund. Will you donate? Funds will be distributed through our national and local partners to support direct cash assistance to families and community food distribution.
We, and so many others, are doing all we can to help families who were already struggling to afford groceries and now face bare cupboards and empty fridges. We know it won’t be enough. SNAP is our nation’s largest, most effective nutrition program and food banks and non-profits simply can’t replace it.
As our CEO Anne Filipic said on BBC News, “The ground is crumbling beneath our feet. And what’s at risk is the basic food and nutrition needs for tens of millions of Americans.”
Our team at No Kid Hungry is working tirelessly to push USDA to release emergency contingency funds and urging Congress to come together on a bipartisan agreement that reopens the government and fully funds the programs that keep kids fed.
But while Washington debates, families are running out of options — and kids are going hungry.
