Dear Friends,

Across the district, I’m hearing from families who are feeling the strain of rising costs and this government shutdown. Too many are wondering how to stretch their grocery budgets or afford their monthly health insurance bills next year—all while trying to keep their households stable.

In this newsletter, I’m sharing updates on what my team and I are doing to stand up for working families, protect access to food assistance, and keep healthcare affordable.

SNAP Benefits Delayed

When food assistance gets delayed, it’s not just numbers on a page—it’s dinner plans, grocery lists, and peace of mind. I’ve heard from families who are stretching every dollar and wondering when their benefits will come through. That’s not right, and I’m working to get answers and results.

If SNAP delays are affecting your family, please tell me about it. Your stories help me advocate for families across Illinois.

Due to the pause in SNAP/LINK benefits, the Greater Chicago Food Depository is setting up additional sites to distribute prepackaged boxes of groceries every Saturday of November. Each box contains more than 20 pounds of food. The schedule for November 1st is below.

Shutdown UpdateImage

Families across Illinois are feeling the effects of the government shutdown. Hardworking people are suffering from the impending delayed SNAP benefits and rising healthcare costs as a result of the ongoing Republican gridlock.

No parent should have to choose between paying bills and feeding their kids or worry about losing health coverage because of politics. I’m fighting to end the shutdown, protect food assistance, and keep healthcare affordable for every family.

Affordable Care Act - Monthly Premiums

Many families across Illinois are seeing their health insurance costs rise by thousands of dollars a year. For a couple nearing retirement or a young family with kids, that’s a major hit to the household budget.

These costs are not inevitable—they’re the result of inaction to protect affordable healthcare by Republicans in Washington, DC. I’m pushing for solutions that lower premiums and protect the care families count on. If you've received your new Premium Notice, I want to hear from you. Will you share the impact of this new premium with me?
