Team, tomorrow Donald Trump will do something no president has ever done during a shutdown before: Cut off SNAP benefits to millions of Americans — including more than a million right here in Massachusetts.

Let me be clear: Billions of dollars are sitting, waiting to be used for this very purpose. But Donald Trump has been refusing to release those funds, letting hungry families and businesses pay the price.

A federal judge just ordered the Trump administration to release those funds, but we don’t yet know when benefits will be available or how much they will pay.

What we do know is that the next few days will be filled with uncertainty for so many of our neighbors, which is why I’m asking everyone who is able to do so to make a donation to the United Way of Massachusetts Bay — an organization doing critical work on the ground to help fill in the gaps the federal government has created.

Bay Staters are the best our country has to offer and have always come through for our communities when times are tough. I know that we will get through this together.
