It’s now the fifth week of the government shutdown, and Miami families are feeling the impact. Many rely on food assistance, healthcare, and essential services now at risk of disruption. My priority is clear: protect our community and ensure every family in District 27 gets the support they need.


Here’s what I’ve done so far:

• Voted to keep the government open and protect key programs while negotiations continue.


• Urged Senate Democrats, with my colleagues in the Republican Women’s Caucus to end the shutdown and safeguard WIC benefits for mothers and children.


• Co-sponsored H.R. 5145 to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies for another year, helping families maintain health coverage and peace of mind.


• Co-sponsored H.R. 5822 to ensure SNAP food benefits continue during the shutdown.


I’ll keep fighting to reopen the government and stay focused on what truly matters: affordable healthcare, lower housing costs, real immigration reform, and protecting freedom at home and abroad.


Despite the shutdown, my offices are open and ready to help. Some agencies may take longer to respond, but my team and I are working every day for you and your family.

PROTECTING FOOD ASSISTANCE THROUGH THE “KEEP SNAP FUNDED ACT”

SNAP benefits could run out very soon. Millions of families in the country may lose access to food assistance because Democrats refuse to reopen the government.


I joined Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) to introduce the Keep SNAP Funded Act of 2025, which guarantees continued food assistance for families during the shutdown.


In Florida, nearly 3 million people depend on SNAP. In Miami-Dade, one in four households rely on it, and in District 27, 17% of families use it. 

SNAP keeps families fed and stable during hard times.


No family should lose food because of Washington’s political games.

CONDEMNING SOCIALISM AS A FAILED IDEOLOGY

This week, I joined Senator Rick Scott to introduce a resolution condemning socialism as a failed ideology and the complete opposite of the American Dream.


As Miami knows too well, socialism has destroyed lives from Caracas to Havana, and now its toxic ideas are creeping into our own country. While far-left politicians glorify socialism, we’re sending a clear message: it brings only poverty, misery, and tyranny.


We must stop it before it’s too late.


America must always remain the light of liberty.

INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION: SERVICE ACADEMY RECRUITMENT DAY

I was proud to host Service Academy Recruitment Day in Palmetto Bay and meet so many outstanding students from across our community.

Their passion, discipline, and desire to serve give me hope for America’s future.

These young patriots are ready to lead and defend our nation as the next generation of military officers.

IN THE MEDIA: SPEAKING UP FOR SOUTH FLORIDA

This week, while I was in the district and joined national and local media outlets including WPLG’s with Glenna Milberg. CBS NEWS, The Economist, Telemundo, and others, to discuss the government shutdown, immigration, the ongoing fight for freedom in Cuba and Venezuela, and other important issues that impact District 27.

I’ll keep speaking on behalf of South Florida families and defending our values, faith, freedom, and opportunity on every platform where our voice can make a difference.

EVENT HIGHLIGHT: PEDIATRIC DENTAL VISIT

This Halloween, I visited the Prime Pediatric dental clinic to meet with doctors, staff, and families dedicated to improving children’s oral health. Every child in South Florida can grow up with a healthy smile. It’s always inspiring to see healthcare professionals making a difference in our community!

My office is proud to be one of the most responsive in Congress, always ready to help with immigration, Social Security, VA benefits, passports, and more. Our team works tirelessly to cut through red tape and deliver real results for our community.
