John,
Families across the country are already struggling to keep food on the table. Grocery prices are up, wages have not kept pace, and more than 40 million people depend on food assistance to get through each month.[1] Now the Trump administration is preparing to cut off that help completely by refusing to release funding for November SNAP benefits.
The Department of Agriculture has $5 billion in reserve that must be used when SNAP funding is at risk. That money is sitting untouched while families brace for the loss of funds that feed their children and keep local grocers in business. SNAP is not charity. It is a vital part of the economy that sustains farmers, food producers, and small stores in every state.
Without it, parents will skip meals to make sure their kids can eat. Seniors will face impossible choices between groceries, rent, and medicine. Food banks will be flooded with unmeetable demand, and local economies will take a hit that could last for months. The administration’s refusal to act will turn hardship into hunger for tens of millions of people who did nothing wrong except rely on a program that has always been there in times of need.
Today, two judges ordered the administration to release SNAP funds, but the administration is expected to challenge that ruling. Working families can’t wait!
Governors have the responsibility to speak out and stop this crisis before it begins. They must demand that the administration release the funds and join the legal efforts already underway to force compliance with the law.
Urge your governor to demand that Trump release the November SNAP funding and protect the millions of families who depend on it for food and stability.
Trump’s refusal to release this aid is not about fiscal responsibility. It is about misplaced priorities and using kids’ hunger as political leverage. His allies have spent years defending tax breaks for billionaires and corporations while cutting the services that working people rely on. They always find money for the wealthy but never for the hungry.
Trump’s decision to block these funds is also about power. He is using hunger as a weapon to push his political agenda, and the victims will be working families, children, seniors, and people with disabilities who did nothing to deserve it.
The cost of inaction will be devastating. States will face rising food insecurity, hospitals will see health crises worsen, and children will go to school hungry. It does not have to happen. The money exists. The authority exists. The only thing missing is the political will to act.
If governors unite and demand action now, they can force the administration to release these funds and prevent a nationwide hunger emergency. They can show that leadership means standing up for the people they serve, not bending to political pressure from Washington.
Tell your governor to stand up to Trump and demand full SNAP funding before families run out of food.
Together, we can make sure no family in America goes hungry because of political cruelty.
