1) The Worst Idea Ever - Ending the Filibuster

My, how the tables have turned.

Here is what our good friends at the Heritage Foundation wrote in 2021 when they vigorously and correctly defended the filibuster rule that requires 60 votes to pass most legislation out of the Senate:

"Joe Biden has been inaugurated as president of the United States, and Democrats are fired up and ready to start passing their liberal agenda. But with the Senate split 50/50, and Vice President Kamala Harris casting tie-breaking votes, all eyes are on the filibuster.

Democrats want to abolish the historic procedure in order to ram through their most contentious legislation; think government-run healthcare, the Green New Deal, and packing the Supreme Court, and that's just for starters."

Some of the worst legislation in history - like the cap-and-trade carbon tax, union card check, and ending right to work - was prevented thanks to the filibuster.

Over the years, the filibuster has been a protective shield for liberty against passing bad laws. Our entire Constitution is about protecting the rights of the minority. Majority rule is a dangerous thing. As the old saying goes: majority rule is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.

We want to make it HARDER, not easier, to pass laws through Congress - especially spending bills. We should never forget that our freedoms are most protected when Congress is NOT in session.

2) Our $9 Billion Homeless-Industrial Complex May Be Making Things Worse

Homelessness is a horrific and heartbreaking affliction in America that is getting worse.

A new disturbing report by the Capital Research Center concludes that there’s big money in keeping homeless people - mostly drug addicts and the mentally ill - on the streets. And a lot of that money is taxpayer dollars.

“Fringe groups in the Homeless Industrial Complex like to characterize homelessness as a symptom of societal injustices, such as systemic racism, police violence, or capitalism,” Scott Walter, president of the Capital Research Center, explained.

The report concludes:

Without clearer boundaries between service and advocacy, and without transparency in how public and philanthropic dollars are used, the United States will continue to spend at scale while leaving tens of thousands on the streets. Reform requires more than funding: it requires accountability, a focus on recovery-oriented programs with measurable results, and vigilance against the misuse of humanitarian platforms for ideological ends. Only then can the nation's compassion be turned intosolutions that genuinely help people off the streets rather than into instruments for agendas that have little to do with homelessness at all.

3) Will the New Jersey Election Next Week Be Safe?

We’re not so sure. Neither is the Justice Department. DOJ says it will send federal monitors to polling sites to "ensure transparency, ballot security and compliance with federal law.”

New Jersey is a state that automatically sends an absentee ballot in every election to anyone who signs up. Parts of the state - Jersey City, Hoboken, and Paterson in Passaic County - have a long and sordid history of fraudulent mail-in votes.

One reason the Trump Justice Department is sending election monitors to Passaic County is that its Board of Elections had blocked security cameras in ballot storage areas and won't require sign-in logs for workers handling mail-in ballots.

Passaic County certainly has problems. Last June, a former municipal court judge pleaded guilty to falsifying voting records. Two Paterson City Council members are under indictment over forged mail-in ballots.

These are the threats to the very democracy that the Left says they are against.

4) Is Your Flight Canceled or Delayed? Blame Chucky Schumer

We warned for many months that Schumer wanted a government shutdown crisis to create mayhem and crisis, and then blame Trump.

Well, the mayhem part is working. How do you like it?

On Thursday, there were temporary ground stops at several airports, and the Flight Aware website listed 6,762 flight delays nationally.

Things will get worse for travelers this weekend.

It's illegal for controllers to strike, but the government isn't about to add to the chaos by firing anybody who doesn't appear for work. Instead, to maintain safety, the government will reduce the number of planes in the sky, which will lead to delayed and cancelled flights.

During this government funding dispute, Trump and the Republicans in Congress have tried to provide short term funding for the air traffic control system, but Democrats won’t allow that to happen until health care benefits are restored for illegal immigrants. You can’t make this stuff up.

From Harvard Law Prof Jill Lepore:

I am in the belly of that beast. I've been teaching at Harvard since 2003, and something really changed on campus around 2014. I often talk with colleagues who are close friends about this: What was it that actually changed it?

Students started showing up, determined that their job in a classroom was to humiliate one another and possibly catch a professor in saying something that was a violation of what they believed to be a way you can speak, or a thing you can say about something. This entire campus became incredibly prosecutorial to the public shaming stuff. I just think it's silly to deny that that existed, that it didn't harm a lot of people, that it wasn't wildly out of control on many occasions.

Do I still deeply believe in the mission of higher education and that this is an institution whose value to the world in terms of its research and scholarship and the ambitions of education that it stands on? I think those are crucially important. But I think it just surprises me to no end when people are like: Well, there was really never a problem on campuses. I don't know what college campus they're talking about. . . . I just think the left has to admit that it has done a lot to make a lot of Americans feel like they do not belong.
