Friend,
The rubble of the White House East Wing has become a powerful symbol of Donald Trump’s presidency, a literal dismantling of American institutions to make room for personal excess.
In his latest project, Trump is building the “ Golden Ballroom, ” a roughly $300 million , 90,000-square-foot expansion that doubles the size of the White House and mirrors the design of Mar-a-Lago’s famed ballroom.
A Place for Donors, Not the Public
Although Trump promised to preserve the East Wing’s structure, the entire building has been demolished. The project bypassed both Congressional and federal review by the National Capital Planning Commission.
Funding for the ballroom comes not from taxpayers, but from the people most likely to be invited to it — a r oster of corporate giants and major donors including Apple, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Google, Lockheed Martin, Palantir, T-Mobile, Comcast, Caterpillar, the Adelson Family Foundation, and Howard Lutnick’s family.
For two generations, the Roosevelt presidents expanded the White House to increase public access and strengthen democracy. As DNC and DSC Legal Counsel Jim Roosevelt observed:
“My grandfather, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and our cousin Teddy Roosevelt provided access to Americans to provide protections and opportunities by building and enhancing the West Wing. Donald Trump is providing access to major donors by building a gilded ballroom. The irony speaks for itself.”
A Nation in Crisis
While Trump’s allies pour millions into his ballroom, the government shutdown he caused is about to bring a sledgehammer to working families:
* 1.1 million Massachusetts residents are likely to lose SNAP benefits on November 1st, straining already overwhelmed food banks.
* The WIC program for pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children faces funding cuts.
* Health care premiums are set to rise 18% because Trump refuses to extend the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced tax credits.
* 25,000 federal workers in Massachusetts remain furloughed, including air traffic controllers just weeks before the Thanksgiving travel rush.

The Bottom Line
As Trump demolishes the East Wing to build a palace for donors, millions of Americans face hunger, higher costs, and uncertainty.
The contrast could not be more stark: A golden ballroom for the powerful. Empty plates for working families.
Democrats are fighting to restore food assistance, protect health care, and end this reckless shutdown. It's time for Trump and Congress to get back to work and protect SNAP.
If you or someone you know needs support, or if you want to help families affected by these cuts, Massachusetts organizations can help and accept donations:
