Friday, July 10, 2020 Chairman’s Report Dear John, This week, I went back out on the road to visit Syracuse and join our CNY candidates running for the State Senate and Assembly to talk about the need to get the legislature back to work. It has been over four months since leaders Andrea Stewart Cousins and Carl Hastie essentially handed the keys to state government over to Governor Cuomo -- and the Democrat-controlled legislature has barely been seen or heard from since. Meanwhile, New York State has a $13 billion deficit, yet there has been no discussion or no real explanation on how the Governor plans to address it. We have businesses that are struggling for clarity as he continues to move the goalposts at the last minute, and there is a complete lack of communication between the Executive and local governments, leaving most of our municipal officials in the dark on any important decisions being handed down. When you have a dictator just trying to rule by decree, you don’t have a government for the people. This is why it is so desperately needed for the legislature to take back their role in government -- so we actually get the input from the citizens across our state. One person that not only has been fighting to keep the Governor in check, but has also been fighting for our best interests in Washington DC, was this week’s featured guest on our video town hall, Congressman Tom Reed. Tom represents the Southern Tier in New York’s 23rd congressional district and joined the U.S. House in 2010. Congressman Reed was joined with our Co-Chair of the NYGOP Public Affairs and Policy Committee, John Burnett, as we tackled the some of the most important issues facing us in New York State. It was great to hear from them and I want to thank them again for joining us. If you were unable to attend, you can watch the town hall below. Sincerely, Nick Langworthy New York State Republican Chairman Watch Chairman Langworthy’s Weekly Video Town Hall Video: Chairman Langworthy Joins Capital Tonight to Call on the Legislature to Get Back to Work Candidate Spotlight: Andrew Garbarino We are excited to have Andrew Garbarino as our candidate for NY-2. Since 2013, Andrew has represented the south shore on Long Island in the New York State Assembly. He has been fighting against Governor Cuomo's liberal machine that wants to raise our taxes and drive people out of the state. Assemblyman Garbarino has also been a vocal opponent of New York's "bail reform" scheme and stood up to the Governor's crazy idea of giving drivers' licenses to illegal immigrants. He is a great representative in the New York State Assembly and he will make an even better congressman in NY-2.
