This Halloween, pick your poison: floods, fires, or fossil fuels?

Every October, we talk about monsters.

But the real horror story isn’t in haunted houses, it’s in Ottawa’s balance sheets.

As Parliament prepares for budget discussions, fossil-fuel subsidies are once again on the table. Despite climate pledges and rising disasters, Canada still funnels billions into oil and gas, more than $29 billion in 2024 alone.

That’s money that could be building affordable housing, clean energy, and a safer future. Instead, it props up an industry driving record wildfires, floods, and droughts across the country.

What’s really scary is how normal this has become. We’ve accepted pollution payouts as policy and Canadians are the ones left paying the price.

The Green Party believes we can do better. We can invest in clean power instead of propping up fossil fuels. We can choose solutions that strengthen communities and protect the planet, not profits for a few.

When Greens speak up for a livable future, we remind Canadians that courage means saying no to the easy path, and yes to what’s right.
