John, you’ve seen the headlines. As the Trump shutdown drags on, working families are being pushed to their limits.

Thousands of government workers are furloughed or working with no paycheck and no guarantee of back pay. Families are watching as their healthcare costs skyrocket because President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans failed to renew the Affordable Care Act tax credits. And on top of all that, the administration is refusing to use allocated emergency funds to fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

By failing to fund SNAP, Trump is taking food out of the mouths of 42 million Americans—including 16 million children, 8 million seniors and 4 million people with disabilities. And with food pantries struggling to keep up with the demand, many have nowhere to turn.

That’s where we come in. Unions show up to help when others can’t—or won’t. It’s up to us to help our neighbors in their time of need. Here’s how you can help.

We will continue to push Trump and Congress to fund SNAP, but we know this work will take time. Just as we showed up in the streets for the “No Kings” day of action, we need to show up for our communities and help.

No one should be going hungry in the wealthiest country in the world. We know that the money is there to feed our friends, our neighbors, our students, our patients and our communities. But since Trump is choosing to let working Americans go hungry, we’re stepping up to help.
