The Heritage Foundation was proud to award The Harlan Institute with one of our latest America250 Innovation Prizes in support of the project - Are These Truths Still Self-Evident? A High School Moot Court Competition Set in 1776.
This competition offers teams of two high school students the opportunity to research cutting-edge constitutional law, write persuasive appellate briefs, argue against other students through video chats, and try to persuade a panel of esteemed attorneys during oral argument that their side is correct.
This year, in honor of America's 250th Anniversary, the competition will focus on the case of Patriots v. Loyalists. The championship round will be held in person in Spring 2026 in Washington, D.C., before a panel of federal judges in the Rotunda of the National Archives, in the presence of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
The deadline to sign up for the competition is November 20, 2025.
