Donald Trump said today that the "courts wouldn't get involved … nobody would get involved" if he sent "the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines" into American cities, claiming he "could send anybody I wanted."

Trump has already deployed the National Guard to Los Angeles, Chicago, Memphis, and Portland, and threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act that would essentially create martial law. These outrageous and authoritarian claims that he can deploy active duty U.S. military against American citizens must be taken deadly seriously.
Right now, this is the top news story on Common Dreams, but the corporate news media is STILL treating Trump's assault on democracy like some kind of run-of-the-mill policy debate rather than the five-alarm fire that it is.

Common Dreams is among the few independent news outlets alerting the public to this dire threat and amplifying the voices of resistance, like Ret. Maj. Gen. Randy Manner, a former top official at the National Guard, who called Trump's use of military force against U.S. cities "un-American and wrong."
