SIGN NOW: Tell Trump to stop treating hungry Americans like pawns and use emergency funds NOW to keep food stamps running >>
John, Trump is choosing to make Americans – including children – go hungry.
Millions of Americans rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to feed their families. But for the first time in our country’s history, Trump’s shutdown is cutting them off [1] – right before the holidays.
And it’s not because there’s no money – we’re the richest country in the world. It’s because Trump refuses to use it.
Trump’s USDA is sitting on a $6 billion emergency fund – and his administration’s own documents said just last month that it should be used to feed people in need during a shutdown. [2] But Trump doesn't care.
If millions of starving children doesn’t count as a genuine national emergency, what does? Trump is making a political choice to let people go hungry – and we need your help to expose it.
SIGN THE PETITION: Tell Trump to stop using hungry children as pawns, stop the cruelty, and use emergency funds to feed America’s families now >>
42 million Americans – parents, veterans, kids, and seniors – could lose the food they rely on starting November 1st. That’s a genuine emergency – one that Trump is making worse to score political points.
There’s always enough money when it suits Trump and his friends. Trump is demanding $230 million from taxpayers to cover his own legal scandals. [3] He found $40 billion to bail out Argentina’s far-right government. [4] And he handed the top 1% a $1 trillion tax cut. [5]
But when it comes to feeding the working families who keep our country running? Suddenly, the cash runs out.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Experts and former officials say the law is clear: these funds can – and must – be used in emergencies like this. [6] And the 25 states (and D.C.) that are suing Trump agree: he has both the power and the responsibility to act. He’s just choosing not to. [7]
Every day Trump delays using these funds means more children going to bed hungry, more veterans skipping meals, and more seniors wondering how they’ll get through the week.
Add Your Name: Trump must use the emergency funds and restore SNAP immediately.
No one should go hungry because of one man’s political games.
Thanks for all you do,
The team at Common Cause
