We want to be clear about the shutdown: Republicans in Washington are holding your healthcare hostage because they care more about appeasing Donald Trump and blaming Democrats than actually improving the lives of Americans. They would rather run a smear campaign against their colleagues across the aisle than represent the People. That is not why they were elected.
Our Democratic representatives are not willing to compromise on the fact that every American deserves affordable healthcare. If the Republicans got their way with this bill, monthly premiums across the country would rise to even more unaffordable levels, including 70-90% increases here in Delaware.
In the midst of the fourth week of the shutdown, Republicans are set in their ways on their talking points instead of coming to a solution. They are willing to allow nearly 118,000 Delawareans, mostly families with children or seniors, go without SNAP food support, which expires on November 1, rather than negotiate to open the government. They prefer to see thousands of Delawareans lose their healthcare insurance to give tax breaks to their billionaire donors. Why else would they refuse to meet with Democratic leaders in Congress?
Please call our Delaware Senators, Chris Coons and Lisa Blunt Rochester, and tell them to stand firm for Americans. Democrats believe healthcare is a human right, and Medicare and ACA subsidies must be funded.
