This month marks painful memorials of two tragedies that have become all too commonplace in the United States of America.
Seven years ago today, a gunman entered a synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA, armed with an assault weapon and murdered 11 people.
Years later, on October 25, 2023, a gunman with an assault weapon killed 18 people in a restaurant and a bowling alley in Lewiston, ME.
While these tragedies are separated by years, the deadly weapons used to wreak havoc on these communities are the same: Assault weapons. These firearms are meant for the battlefield, not for places of worship, restaurants, or bowling alleys. They are designed to kill as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.
What’s worse is that lawmakers failed to ban assault weapons seven years ago, two years ago, and every tragedy in between. Everyday life is under constant threat because our lawmakers refuse to act in the interest of our safety. Americans deserve to feel safe in their daily lives. YOU deserve safety, friend.
