Friend, Hurricane Melissa is about to make landfall in Jamaica as a catastrophic Category 4 or 5 hurricane and is predicted to be the strongest storm in 2025. With winds over 160 mph, storm surges up to 13 feet, and rainfall reaching 40 inches, the risk of life-threatening flash floods, landslides, and widespread destruction greatly increases. Entire communities will likely be cut off from power, clean water, and health care.
Project HOPE's emergency response team is preparing to deploy to Jamaica while monitoring needs across the region. The team will assess the most pressing health and humanitarian needs, equip local health workers with the tools they need in the immediate aftermath, and fill gaps in response efforts.
