There was a time in our nation’s history when Black Americans had to guess the number of jelly beans in a jar – or the amount of bubbles on a bar of soap – just to register to vote.

While those days are behind us, the goal of suppressing our vote is still very much alive.

Any day now, the Supreme Court could hand down a decision that would gut the Voting Rights Act – letting Trump and the GOP redraw up to 19 districts, erasing nearly 30% of the Black Caucus and 11% of the Hispanic Caucus, and effectively silence minority voters.

Friend, we cannot allow Republicans like my opponent to continue to chip away at our voting rights. We need Democrats to take back the Senate and restore the sanctity of our democracy. Texas Republicans – led by my opponents John Cornyn and Ken Paxton – have already pushed a redistricting scheme to gerrymander five districts to disenfranchise voters. Now, the North Carolina GOP is following their lead.
