Email from Counter Extremism Project (CEP) Counter Extremism Project Marks Seventh Anniversary of Tree of Life Synagogue Attack in Pittsburgh (New York, N.Y.) – CEP CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace stated: “Seven years ago today, eleven worshippers from three congregations—Tree of Life Or L’Simcha, New Light Congregation, and Congregation Dor Hadash—were murdered in Pittsburgh in the deadliest antisemitic attack on the Jewish community in American history. Their loss remains an open wound in the fabric of American Jewish life and is a stark reminder of the persistence of antisemitism and the growing threat of violent extremism that continues to endanger the Jewish community today. “It is our collective responsibility to remember and honor the victims. But we must not stop there. We also must act to help prevent such atrocities from happening again and stopping extremism in its tracks. That means recommitting to dismantling systems of hate before they take root. To stop hate, we must first understand how and where it exists. The Tree of Life attack was an horrific reminder of how extremist narratives can spread online and transform prejudice into fatal action. “As we mark this anniversary, CEP reaffirms its mission: to expose and disrupt the forces of extremism, to counter the ideologies that fuel antisemitic violence, and to transform sites of darkness into centers of education, understanding and active vigilance. Memory alone is not enough. Honoring the victims means continuing the work of confronting antisemitism wherever it takes root.” Click here for information about CEP’s new initiative to fight antisemitism and extremism, the Auschwitz Research Center on Hate, Extremism and Radicalization (ARCHER) at House 88.   The Counter Extremism Project (CEP) is a nonprofit and non-partisan international policy organization working to combat the growing threat posed by extremist ideologies.
