John—As a dedicated IRC supporter, you help us respond to the world's worst humanitarian emergencies. That's why I want to make sure you receive the latest crisis briefings out of Sudan and Afghanistan.

SUDAN

Since April 2023, conflict in Sudan has torn apart lives and livelihoods—devastating agriculture, disrupting trade and forcing over 12 million people from their homes.

As fighting continues, food prices have soared beyond reach, making it even harder for parents to put food on the table.

Today, more than half of the population are facing extreme levels of food insecurity and malnutrition, making Sudan one of the worst food insecurity emergencies in the world.

The IRC, with funding from the European Union, is scaling up our humanitarian response to address the increasing needs of displaced communities within Sudan.

With your support, our trained malnutrition teams are providing lifesaving screening, nutritional supplements and medical check ups—supporting children's recovery and preventing relapse.

AFGHANISTAN

On August 31 of this year, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, causing over 2,000 deaths, leaving thousands more injured across four provinces and severely damaging homes and health infrastructure. Four days later, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake—and five aftershocks—struck the region.

This disaster comes as Afghanistan is already facing a severe humanitarian crisis, with over 22.9 million people in urgent need of aid.

As Afghanistan struggles to recover from years of conflict and natural disasters, the IRC is working with local communities to:

Identify, plan and manage their own development projects

Provide safe learning spaces and basic health services in remote areas, and cash distributions that can provide uprooted families with tents, clean water, sanitation and other basic necessities

Help people find livelihood opportunities as well as extensive resilience programming

But the crisis in Afghanistan is also impacted by recent funding cuts to global aid—putting millions of Afghans at greater risk of hunger, illness and displacement.

The IRC has responded to humanitarian crises like these for over 90 years—but we can only continue this work with support from caring friends like you, John.

Please consider making a gift today to power this work around the world while your gift will be matched to make 2X the impact.
