Keeping track of all the scandals of the Trump era — any one of which would have consumed any previous presidential administration — is nearly impossible. Never mind trying to rank whether this one is worse than that one.

But even for a regime that seems to average about three Watergates a week, the sudden demolition of the East Wing of the White House is viscerally shocking. And unprecedented. And possibly illegal (though it’s not clear whether anyone has standing to sue about it).

As if we needed another metaphor for the damage Trump is doing in pursuit of his dictatorial ambitions, the American people are witnessing in real time the unfortunate reality that an unhinged maniac can tear down the structures of our government almost overnight. It will take years, or even generations, to restore the literal and figurative pillars of our democracy.

We will have more to say about this in the days and weeks ahead, but for now, we wanted to give you a chance to voice your outrage while the dust is still settling where the East Wing stood for over a century.

Tell Donald Trump:

You are a temporary guest in the White House, which belongs to the American people. You had no right to tear down part of that building. And for what, so you can erect a gaudy ballroom where billionaires and Big Business will line up to bend the knee? Once again, you have disgraced yourself, the presidency, and the entire nation.

Thanks for taking action.
