Today, I'm thinking of the Wellstone family — of Paul, his wife Sheila, his daughter Marcia, and his campaign staffers Mary, Tom, and Will. They were taken from us much too soon.
I was lucky to know Paul. His last campaign was my first. His dedication to making people’s lives better was unmatched.
He believed that we all do better when we all do better. That sentiment has guided my entire career. From the Minneapolis school board, Children’s Defense Fund to the state legislature, and beyond, I’ve never let that simple principle escape me.
Paul knew that politics CAN make people’s lives better. Too many Americans and too many of our leaders don’t believe that that is true anymore, but I still do. And that’s why I'm running for Senate to fight for everyone.
We can make our government effective again and enact bold policies that will have a real impact on people’s lives. That’s exactly what I’ll do from the Senate floor.
To Paul’s family, my thoughts are with you today.
