![]() Take it from a former SEC prosecutor: White-collar criminals, violent offenders, and drug cartels are absolutely giddy about Donald Trump’s presidency. Here’s why: Since the beginning of the year, federal law enforcement agencies — under Donald Trump’s command — have deprioritized prosecutions of violent and white-collar crime. Instead, Trump has shifted a countless number of man-hours to support ICE’s immigration raids. As a consequence, federal drug prosecutions have fallen to their lowest level in decades. Money laundering charges have dropped by 24%. Even the DEA has shifted 25% of its operations away from targeting drug cartels and fentanyl traffickers. And for what? All so Donald Trump can use law enforcement professionals as his personal political props.
It’s not complicated: These agents are trained to pursue violent offenders and drug cartels — not round up kids and families. But Donald Trump doesn’t care. We all knew Trump was willing to make America less safe to stroke his own ego. And the data is proof. More than ever, we need a Congress that will stand up to this authoritarianism — not sit in silence as Trump gives fraudsters and criminals a free pass. That’s why I led a letter to Kash Patel and Pam Bondi demanding answers into why they’re letting drugs on our street while masked agents are separating kids from their families. This cannot stand.
