The government shutdown is in its fourth week, and House Republicans continue to be unwilling to come to the table. Affordable healthcare is on the line for thousands of Illinoisans and millions nationwide.
And while working people are missing paychecks and families are hurting, President Trump is spending $230 MILLION to gut the White House’s East Wing to build a ballroom.
It’s completely out of touch. Republicans’ priorities are clearly in the wrong place.
I’ve spent my life going to bat for Illinois. My grandparents – a union painter and a schoolteacher – inspired me to work hard and champion working families like ours. Before Congress, I fought for workers’ rights and led the effort to raise Illinois’ minimum wage to $15 an hour.
We’ve made progress since I flipped IL-13 from red to blue in 2022, but we’re facing truly unprecedented obstacles in Washington right now. I’m speaking out and doing all I can to deliver for Central and Southern Illinois, but real accountability is almost impossible without a Democratic majority.
