Friend,

Last week, Donald Trump commuted the sentence of disgraced former Congressman George Santos.

Earlier in his term, President Trump used his pardon powers to commute more than 1,500 January 6th insurrectionists.

And now, he is saying that he’s considering pardoning Ghislane Maxwell, who is serving a 20 year sentence for child sex trafficking alongside Jeffrey Epstein.

The truth is that presidents of both parties have abused the pardon power.

That’s why I believe we need to ban it. The pardon power doesn’t make sense for either party in America any longer.

It's always been strange to me that the president has a few extra chits in their pocket to give away. It's a literal "get out of jail free card" that muddies the water.

And when you have a president who has a deep problem with corruption, it can just be taken to a dangerous degree.

I believe all Americans deserve a fair judicial process. But the quirk of the presidential pardon is not working.

If we could get rid of it for everybody, I'd be thrilled.

Thanks for reading,

Elissa
