The Supreme Court just heard arguments in a major case that could overturn Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 – effectively gutting the landmark law and silencing millions of voters, particularly minority voters.

The GOP is working overtime to purge voter rolls, pass strict voter ID laws, attack vote-by-mail, and gerrymander congressional districts to help them win in the midterm elections. Now, if this key provision of the Voting Rights Act is overturned, there will be no legal guardrails to prevent lawmakers from drawing racially discriminatory maps.

Let that sink in.
