A NOTE FROM CHRISSY

GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

As I write this, we are in the midst of a government shutdown with no end in sight – all because Republicans would rather give tax breaks to the rich than provide health care to those most in need. Speaker Johnson refuses to require us ALL to be in Washington. He refuses to negotiate at ALL with Democrats. He refuses to swear in Arizona’s newly elected Representative, Adelita Grijalva – a duly elected and certified member of Congress. The GOP controls the House, the Senate, and the White House, and they could keep the doors open if they wanted to. But he and they are choosing to erode the Constitution and Congress’ Article 1 responsibilities and authorities.

Instead, they're holding firm on their reckless and dangerous budget, which will force many of my constituents to pay more than $3,000 extra for the same coverage. Republicans have been trying to overturn the Affordable Care Act since it became law in 2010. And not once with an alternative. Now more than ever, we must protect the Affordable Care Act, restore funding to Medicare and Medicaid, and stop the nonsense.

WHAT I AND MY TEAM ARE DOING DURING THIS TIME

First and foremost, we are still working. Like most public servants, we’re not getting paid either, but we’re answering the phones, following up on casework, and doing our part to end the shutdown, including:

  • Hearing from constituents at a town hall in Downingtown
  • Touring a local food bank struggling to keep food on its shelves
  • Meeting with seniors in Berks County, students at Lincoln University, Black community leaders across the district, and health care workers to hear their priorities and concerns
  • Showing up in Washington, D.C., to work and to testify at a hearing on the impact of the shutdown on my community
  • Continuing to speak out against the many reprehensible actions of this administration

TROOPS PAID DURING SHUTDOWN

On Oct. 15, the Trump administration intervened to pay our military on time. I’m glad he did. No one, especially those who protect our national security and keep us safe, should have to work without pay. Unfortunately, this was a one-time event, and while President Trump might do so again on Oct. 30, there isn’t money to do this indefinitely.

Federal law enforcement, first responders, air traffic controllers, TSA agents, federal health workers, and, honestly, everyone who works for the federal government behind the scenes to keep our water clean, our roads clear, our food safe, our tax refunds processed, and more, deserve to be paid. Pennsylvania Democrats have been showing up in D.C. to get the government fully open for everyone – and I wish we could say the same for our Republican colleagues.

NOVEMBER 2025 ELECTION

California’s redistricting referendum is on the ballot on Nov. 4. My friend Rep. Abigail Spanberger is on the ballot for Governor in Virginia. My friend Rep. Mikie Sherrill is on the ballot for Governor in New Jersey. And in Pennsylvania, we have a slew of important local races and the all-important retention election for the state Supreme Court. The outcome of all of these races sends a message about how angry we are about the direction of our country and how willing we are to work to change things.

With all eyes on Pennsylvania, it's absolutely critical that we show up, organize, and win. But in order to get there, we need to expand our Get Out the Vote campaigns. Check out how you can make an impact by visiting https://www.mobilize.us/chestercountydemocraticparty today.

Thank you for your support.

There's work to be done,

Chrissy
