A king is a guy that thinks he’s fly
We don’t know about y’all, but we were pretty disappointed to miss the antifa supersoldiers we were promised at last week's No Kings protest. Based on the rhetoric from Mike Johnson, we half expected to see Marx and Lenin themselves, risen from their graves. Instead, we saw a bunch of moms, dads, and grandparents waving American flags and a lot of photoshopped photos ([link removed]) of J.D. Vance’s face. What gives??
Our new poll finds ([link removed]) that a majority of voters (61%) have heard either “a lot” or “some” about last weekend’s “No Kings” protests. And of those who had heard about it, 52% had heard mostly positive things.

With between 5-6.5 million people marching against authoritarianism last week, it’s estimated ([link removed]) that the No Kings Day protest will have been the second-largest single-day political protest in American history (after Earth Day, damn those environmentalists). Our favorite protest sign? One that said Trump’s drag nickname should be ReLisa D’Files.

Here are some other highlights from DFP this week:
He came in like a wrecking ball (literally ([link removed]) )
Donald Trump is already taking a sledgehammer to basically everything within his line of sight (including the literal ([link removed]) White House), and affordable health care is next on the chopping block.
Republicans are refusing to extend ([link removed]) the Affordable Care Act subsidies, which would raise health insurance premiums throughout the country, with millions ([link removed]) of Americans seeing their premiums increase or becoming uninsured entirely. It’s truly the biggest heist of the year — and yes, we’re including the French crown jewels.
Our polling ([link removed]) with Groundwork Collaborative finds that two-thirds of voters have now heard a lot or some about rising health care premiums. But that number has room to grow — 75% of voters say they are concerned about health insurance premiums rising this year.

Throughout our polling, we have also consistently ([link removed]) found ([link removed]) that voters blame Republicans more than Democrats for the shutdown by about a +10-point margin.
Maybe Kim Kardashian was talking about Congressional Republicans when she said, “Get your f—ing ass up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days!” Because most voters see that Democrats are willing to come to the table and negotiate to end the shutdown, while the GOP is too busy doing… whatever they do at home (probably texting in racist groupchats).

Baby got back(pay)
Workers like big checks, and they cannot lie. Especially when those checks are just the salaries they were owed after their forced time off due to the ongoing government shutdown.
Trump and the GOP have turned to a new tactic to try to coerce Democrats into voting for their bill: threatening to cut ([link removed]) “back pay” for federal workers who have been furloughed due to the shutdown.
Legal experts say that this tactic, which would leave hundreds of thousands of federal employees without compensation for their required time off, would violate a law that *Trump himself ([link removed]) * signed in 2019 to guarantee back pay to federal employees who were furloughed due to a shutdown.
Maybe it’s time for Trump to take another ([link removed]) one of those “person, woman. man, camera, TV” tests…
We find ([link removed]) that a strong majority of voters (71%) think that federal government employees should receive compensation for their required time off during a shutdown, while only 21% think they should not receive compensation.

If we’re talking about not paying people who aren’t working, we’ve got a couple of names on the list. Starting with the White House Press Secretary, who seems to think answering questions with “your mom ([link removed]) ” is the height of humor and professionalism. Lord help us if we start hearing 6-7 at the podium.
