WAGOP’s turning up the heat — and Democrats in Olympia are starting to sweat.

Democrats Might Finally Have to Earn Their Supermajority

The Washington State Republican Party is going all-in on its ballot collection and in-person voting efforts ahead of next month’s special election in the 5th Legislative District — a race that could break the Democrats’ iron grip on Olympia. Partnering with King and Yakima County GOP groups, the party is expanding its proven Yakima-style ballot drop-off model to communities like Enumclaw and Maple Valley.
Even the Seattle Times — yes, that Seattle Times — endorsed Republican Chad Magendanz for the seat, signaling just how fed-up voters are with one-party rule. WAGOP Chair Jim Walsh said the goal is simple: get more conservatives voting and restore some balance to state government.
If Democrats lose this one, they can’t blame “disinformation” or “voter apathy” — just their own bad policies catching up to them. Read more at Seattle Red.

Spokane’s “Progressive Vision” Is Working Great — Said No One Ever

A new Greater Spokane Incorporated survey shows life in Spokane continues circling the drain. The city’s quality-of-life score has dropped again — from 3.6 to 3.3 out of 10 — and residents feel increasingly unsafe downtown. Only 62% feel safe during the day (down from 68%), and just 25% at night. Homelessness and public safety top the list of concerns, while trust in local government sits firmly in the basement.
About two-thirds of voters have considered leaving Spokane entirely, and seven in ten don’t believe city leaders have a real plan to fix anything. But instead of enforcing the voter-approved camping ban, Mayor Lisa Brown and the City Council replaced it with a watered-down, “unenforceable” ordinance that police can’t even act on.
Residents overwhelmingly support funding treatment, mental health response teams, and — gasp — more police. Yet most say Spokane already has enough money; it’s just being wasted. Democrats in charge keep promising “solutions,” but after years of their policies, downtown looks less like a city center and more like a cautionary tale. Read more at Center Square.

Another Washington Favorite Restaurant Bites the Dust

The Rock Wood Fired Pizza, a Tacoma-born chain that’s been dishing out wood-fired goodness since 1995, just announced it’s shuttering six Washington locations — including Renton, Federal Way, Tacoma, Puyallup, Covington, and Lacey. The company thanked loyal customers for three decades of “dough, sauce, and smiles,” but didn’t share specific closing dates. Its final outpost in Auburn will remain open — for now.
Meanwhile, small businesses keep getting squeezed by Washington’s high costs, suffocating regulations, and the economic genius of one-party rule. Turns out, when Democrats make it harder to operate, even rock ’n’ roll can’t save your pizza joint. Read more at MyNorthwest.com.
