When I was in 5th grade, I told my Dad that I wanted to go to the Naval Academy and fly. He told me that he wasn’t sure if there were women pilots in the Navy, or if I’d even be able to attend the Academy as a woman. I think you know how that story ended.

When I decided to run for Congress in New Jersey, I ran as a Democrat in a district that was Republican-held for the previous 34 years — not only did I flip the district and help Democrats take back the House, but I won my race by nearly 15 points.

When my district needed me to deliver results for their roads and bridges, and Washington was gridlocked, I didn’t ignore them or tell them it was too hard — I advocated for New Jersey, won fights for my community, and secured critical funding for projects like the Gateway Tunnel.

Now, I’m facing another tough fight in this campaign to become the next governor of New Jersey. And I won’t lie to you — this is one of the most difficult challenges I have yet to face.

But my career has prepared me for tough fights like this one. I’ll never back down because things are getting difficult, or people tell me I can’t — because with the support of this incredible grassroots team by my side, I feel more confident than ever that we are on our way to victory.
