We asked how the shutdown is impacting you — here’s what you said.
Recently, we asked how you’re feeling about the Republican shutdown — and the messages we received made one thing clear: the GOP’s manufactured crisis is causing real harm.
In a moment, we’re going to share some of the survey responses with you. We hope that after reading, you’ll chip in $5 to help Sarah keep up the fight to protect healthcare, reopen the government, and hold Republicans accountable for their cruelty.
Here are just a few of the responses we received:
How is the Republican shutdown affecting your family?
- “My single mom daughter is forced to work at her government job without pay. Meanwhile she has a mortgage, car payment, utilities, food, gas, insurance, and other bills to pay. We will need to help her financially because of the shutdown.”
- “My Husband and I work in the airline/transportation industry, and Republicans are causing havoc in the sky. People are actually worried about the safety of our FAA and the literal safety of our planes and air traffic control.”
- “Our son is disabled. We worry about how the shutdown will impact his services. We worry for our friends and family who are going without paychecks.”
How are you feeling about the shutdown in general?
- “Saddened for the families and employees affected by the shutdown.”
- “Worried and very concerned. Anxious.”
- “PISSED OFF to be honest!”
How do you think Democrats should approach the shutdown?
- “Democrats need to stand up for our healthcare needs and not allow Republicans to bully them.”
- “The Democrats should continue this fight to restore Affordable Care Act subsidies. Make this the focus. And condemn President Trump for his treatment of government workers and attacking their livelihoods.”
- “As frustrating as this shutdown is, I’m so glad that the Democrats are trying to find their spines and standing up for the American people’s right to healthcare. We cannot keep letting this regime take and take and take. We cannot let them think that this is acceptable to us. Keep fighting. I don’t care how long it takes. Keep fighting for us. Please.”
If you shared your story and thoughts with us — thank you.
It’s clear that families are counting on leaders who will fight back, and that’s exactly what Sarah’s doing right now.
While Congressional Republicans continue to hold our government hostage to protect Donald Trump’s cruel Medicaid cuts and let health care premiums spike for working families, Sarah is holding the line to protect health care and legislate to deliver urgent relief to those impacted by this shutdown.
If you’re with Sarah in this fight — and you’re in a position to give — please chip in $5 or whatever feels right to power Sarah’s leadership for working people and affordable healthcare.
