President Trump’s latest attack singles out nonprofits and charities simply for doing their work. These organizations defend our communities, promote free debate, and support causes Americans believe in.

In a September 25 memorandum, Trump directed the Department of Justice to investigate and potentially prosecute these organizations and even their donors, all because they don’t align with his agenda.

This is a gross violation of the First Amendment and a direct attack on supporters and volunteers who aid these organizations.

I joined a coalition of attorneys general from 10 states to condemn this dangerous overreach. We made it clear that we will continue to protect their freedom to operate without fear of politically motivated retaliation.
