John, I didn’t plan on running for federal office. I wanted to serve North Carolina from right here at home. But when I look at what’s happening in this country today, I know I can’t leave things as they are for my daughters, or for their children, or for yours.
Americans risked — and even lost — their lives for the rights that extreme Republicans now want to rip away. The right to vote. To live free of discrimination. To access an abortion. To get a quality public education.
The schemes pushed by the far right won’t give us a country where all of us are equally free and equally worthy of dignity and respect. But the values I stand for will, and I’m ready to fight for them.
