Dear Friend,

We are now on Day 23 of the government shutdown.

Federal employees have missed their first pay checks, SNAP benefits are on the line, and the Trump Administration’s policies have resulted in firing federal workers, including those who support students with disabilities. And if Republicans in Congress vote no to extend critical healthcare subsidies, the cost of staying insured will skyrocket for 87,000 people in our San Antonio district.

Trump and the Republican majority need to enact policies that will end the shutdown and lower costs for families in Texas and across the country.

Government Shutdown | Day 23

Speaker Johnson has yet to call the House back into session. By shutting down the House of Representatives, Congress is acting as a bystander in the American government.

Earlier this week, I shared my story about finding out I had cancer. As a cancer patient, I know treatment is expensive. For many Americans, having health insurance is the difference between life and death.

That’s why I—and so many Democrats—are fighting so hard to protect healthcare subsidies for millions of Americans.

I want to hear from you

Millions of folks rely on essential services like SNAP, special education programs, and ACA healthcare subsidies. Trump’s policy to unconstitutionally dismiss critical employees from the Department of Education, the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Nuclear Security Administration, and more, is taking away resources from Texans and Americans.

I want to hear from you and how these changes may impact you.
