Congressman Al Green to Hold Press Conference on the Unjust Republican Shutdown Crisis/Scheme Caused by Republicans' Refusal to Open the Government or Negotiate with Democrats, Creating a Loss of SNAP Benefits and Higher Healthcare Costs

(Houston, TX) — On Thursday, October 23, 2025, Congressman Al Green will host a press conference to address the unjust Republican shutdown crisis/scheme and its devastating impacts on SNAP benefits and healthcare.

Congressman Al Green stated: This press event will allow me to further explicate what I first declared on October 2, 2025: “The Republicans can end the shutdown crisis they have created whenever they choose, because they have control of the House, Senate, and the Presidency. They hold the power to end the unjust shutdown crisis/scheme they have created. At some point, after refusing to negotiate in good faith with Democrats, President Trump and Republicans will vote to end their shutdown crisis/scheme, shamefully, after having caused much needless pain and suffering. Dr. King reminded us in 1966 that ‘Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhuman because it often results in physical death.’ (I would add injustice in food to Dr. King’s profundity.) Dr. King’s words still ring true some 23 days into the unjust Republican shutdown crisis/scheme.”
