John, it’s Eugene — and I need to set the record straight.
Representative Scott Perry just accused Democrats of hating the military. He said, “They don’t care about the Constitution or the nation’s defense.”
Let me be clear, Scott: I have devoted my life to this country, and every day in Congress, I continue to fight to defend our Constitution.
My family fled Soviet-led Ukraine during the height of the Cold War. My father came here with less than $800 in his pocket because he had hope — hope to give his family a better life and for a chance at freedom.
So when my twin brother Alex and I enlisted in the U.S. military at 18, we served proudly for 25 years — until Donald Trump fired us for telling the truth and defending the Constitution. We didn’t serve as a means to run for Congress, like you claim folks do. We served because we love this country and wanted to give back to the nation that gave us everything.
Like every servicemember, I swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution — an oath I have lived by my entire adult life. I fulfilled that duty for 25 years in uniform, and I continue fulfilling it every day in Congress.
So to question the patriotism of those who’ve risked their lives for this country is beyond the pale.
No party has a monopoly on patriotism. But if Scott Perry truly cares about our troops, he’ll stop the political games and work with Democrats to reopen the government — so our service members can get paid again.
That’s what I’m fighting for: To get this government back open, make sure federal workers receive their paychecks, and ensure families don’t lose health care or food benefits because of political grandstanding.
So I’m asking you to help me send a message — loud and clear — that Democrats love our military and our country, and we’re fighting for it every day.

I have spent my life serving this country, and as long as I have you by my side, I don’t intend to stop anytime soon.
