Hello, I am Justin Cummings, I am the first African-American male and millennial Mayor of Santa Cruz, and we need everyone to vote Yes on Prop 15 because we need Schools & Communities First now, more than ever, to bring equity into California's post COVID-19 recovery. Prop 15 is an important part of the solution to the difficult problems local governments are facing across California.

I ran for office in Santa Cruz because I am deeply committed to working on issues that help improve the quality of our environment and the people who live within it. Last week, I spoke with elected officials from across California to remind them why it's so important we pass Prop 15 to put our Schools & Communities First: it will be a crucial component of an equitable recovery from this COVID-19 crisis.

Here are some facts to consider:

- Black and brown communities are impacted by COVID-19 at higher rates, so we must make equitable improvements to our public health -- that's why we need to vote Yes on Prop 15.

- All students deserve reliable and quality access to the Internet regardless of their zip code, so they can distance learn -- that's why we need to vote Yes on Prop 15.

- Communities of color make up a disproportionate share of our essential workforce, so we need to honor their sacrifices by investing in them -- that's why we need to vote Yes on Prop 15.

Schools & Communities First is a crucial reform that will help invest in an equitable recovery that we can pass by voting Yes on Prop 15. It will help local communities, like Santa Cruz, create opportunities for ALL Californians.

Will you join me in working to create a thriving California by putting our Schools & Communities First and voting Yes on Prop 15?

We are ready for structural change and an equitable recovery so ALL Californians can thrive.

The Schools & Communities First initiative reclaims $12 billion every year for California’s schools and local communities by closing commercial property tax loopholes benefiting a fraction of corporations and wealthy investors. The initiative benefits residents and small businesses by exempting homeowners and renters from any changes while implementing new tax relief for small businesses.
